Introduction
The Art Museum, an integral unit of the Institute of Chinese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong serves the university community and the Hong Kong SAR by collecting, preserving, researching and exhibiting a wide range of artifacts illuminating the rich arts, humanities, and cultural heritage of ancient and pre-modern China. The Art Museum promotes the excellence of both its permanent collections and loan collections of Chinese art and their use for scholarly endeavours and outreach efforts. As a university teaching museum, it offers in-depth practice of museology and teaching of art history and heritage through direct and sustained access to original Chinese works of art by collaborating with the Department of Fine Arts. With different University faculties it advocates interdisciplinary approaches to the social, cultural, technological and historical context of Chinese art.
Exhibitions
Special exhibitions and selections from the permanent collection are on display in the spacious I and II west wing galleries. Selected for artistic, historical and educational value, exhibits at the Art Museum provide the opportunity for students, teachers and members of the public to gain firsthand experience of Chinese culture as portrayed through art and archaeology.
The Art Museum has established itself as one of the most active museums in Hong Kong for major exhibitions from China. Collection exhibitions
Collection exhibitions are on display at the East-wing Galleries of the Art Museum all the year round, with the exhibits being rotated semi-annually. Apart from exemplifying the rich traditions of Chinese art, the exhibits also serve to highlight the research orientation of the Art Museum.
Conservation Annex
The Conservation Annex was established in 1977 for the restoration and conservation of works of art. It also provides technical support for the Art Museum, as it houses a conservation laboratory for the restoration of artworks, a photography studio, mounting workshop and a woodwork workshop.
Archive library
To facilitate research work and the organization of exhibitions, the Art Museum maintains an archive library of reference books, exhibition catalogues and an archive of photographs and slides on Chinese art and archaeology through purchases, donations and exchanges with other museums.

Transportation
Airport Recommended Route: Take the Airport Express service of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) at the Hong Kong International Airport and change to the Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) at Kowloon Tong Station. Take the KCR to University Station.
Hong Kong Island Recommended Route: Take the MTR, change to the KCR at Kowloon Tong Station, and go all the way to University Station.
Kowloon Recommended Route: Take the MTR and change to the KCR at Kowloon Tong or Tsim Sha Tsui Stations. If you embark at the Stations of Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Mong Kok or Kowloon Tong, you can take the KCR directly to University Station.
New Territories Recommended Route: Take the KCR to University Station.
Lo Wu Recommended Route: Take the KCR to University Station.
